WORK EXPERIENCE WEEK ONE 23rd - 27th
Place of work - Platinum hair salon Loughrea
MONDAY- On the Monday 23rd October I arrived in for my work experience at half 9, I was very excited to get started and find out what the working world was like. On the first day the salon was very quite and I was there with one other hair stylist called Ashleigh. When I arrived she showed me to the staff room a list of what I was expected to do throughout the week. These jobs included greeting customers and showing them to their station, making tea and coffee for the customers, after a client leaves I tided up that station by sweeping the floors, putting hair brushes in the sterilisers, bringing empty cups to the sink and folding towels and putting them on the shelves.
TUESDAY- Tuesday was a lot more interesting then Monday. I was shown a book of all the different hair colours, I learnt that colours of hair are determined by different numbers for example 5.36, 3.1 and ones like that. Ashleigh who was a new stylist there told me how to become a hairdresser, she told me that its takes awhile to become a full time stylist.
WEDNESDAY- On Wednesday I began to see the more busier side of the week. I seen more of what a hairdresser does in a day. As they were busy I was asked to go down and get there lunches because they had no time themselves. Throughout the day I cleaned up each station, folded towels, cleaned mirrors etc. I got on well with all the staff there as they were all so nice and welcoming towards me.
THURSDAY- Today was the first day that all 5 stylists were working which made such a difference in the workplace. I got to interact more with the customers by greeting them and bringing them to their station. I also went down to buy milk and get their lunches for them. I also continued to do what I made been doing previous days.
FRIDAY- Friday was my last day of work experience. I brought them all in a box of biscuits to thank them for having me for the week and I continued on with what I had being doing during the week.
Overall I didn't really enjoy my work experience as much I had thought I would. I don't see a future in hairdressing for me. Although I am glad I did it so it rules that out for me and I can continue to figure out what I would like to do after school.
