Barcelona
On Tuesday 23rd April, all TYs along with 4 teachers had a very early start as we headed of to Dublin airport at 1am. We arrived at Dublin airport at around 3am, we went through security and then were aloud an hour in the duty free before boarding our flight at around 6am. After a two and a half hour flight we arrived in Barcelona and met with our coach for the day. Our first stop was the CosmoCaixo museum. Here we got to see many different things including all different kinds of fish and many different sciencey stuff that wasn't really of much interest to me. I think the majority of us ended up sitting outside of the café soaking up the sun. We then headed to La Sagrada Familla, a massive cathedrial in Barcelona. Throughout our tour for the day our guide would give us an insist to the history we were seeing. We then went to my least favourite thing of the day, the cable car. We took the cable car to see Monjuic which is a castle on a mountain. Its safe to say the the journey in the cable car up to the castle was not at all enjoyable. After our full day in Barcelona we set off on our 2 hour bus journey to our hotel, where I think many people were catching up on some sleep as we were all wreaked at this point. Once we got to our accommodation Salut Park Hotel, we were given our room keys and giving about a half an hour to get ready for dinner. After a very unpleasant meal which ended up being just chips we all headed off on our last activity of the day, bowling.
On the second day the first destination was the Gaudi Museum, here we were given phones which told us about each thing we saw. We had a good bit of freetime after this to wonder around the area and see what there was. From here we headed to Porta Ventura, I had been here twice before so I knew what to expect. We spent about 5 hours here going on all the rollercosters and just enjoying the park. This was probably one of my favourite parts of the trip. We then all hopped back in our bus and headed back to the hotel. where we quickly got changed and headed down to the beach for an hour. It was great fun splashing eachother with water and just taking in all the sun. When we returned from the beach we all decided we might as well just hop in the pool, surprisingly no one was jumping at the chance to go to dinner. We spent about another half an hour here and then had to go in to eat. After dinner we were all given some free time to explore what was around our hotel and see all the little shops. After this we all went back to the hotel and went straight to bed as we were all extremely tired at this point. This day was definently my favourite out of the 3 as we got to do our own thing for most of the day and nothing was really rushed so we could see and do everything we wanted to.
Onto our last and final day, we had a very early start as we had to pack which we were stupid enough to leave till very last minute. We said our goodbyes to the hotel and headed of to tarragona to see the Roman Ampitheatre. We then got a couple hours free time to eat and see the sights of tarragona which is a very pretty place. We all meted up again and set off on a long 2 hour trip back to Barcelona to Nou Camp, the home of Barcelona football. I had no interest in this so it was very boring for me to walk around and see a load of things I hadn't a clue about. Finally, the tour finished and we went to Maremagnum shopping centre, we were only aloud on hour here so we hadn't much time. I spent the foirst half an hour browsing the shops and then spent the rest having proper food which we lacked for 2 days.
We all got back on the plane and headed for the airport too go back home to Ireland. The plane journey home was a bit of fun as I got to sit with one of my friends. We arrived home to around 2am and I think we all slept for the whole next day.
Overall I think I can definenitly say that Barcelona was my favourite part of my TY year. the fact it was really warm and I was with all my friends in a different country we had a great time and I would happily do it again.
