Healthy Lifestyle Programe
On the 6th and 7th eptember, Jeffrey Allen and Agata Hidalgo from the Healthy Lifestyle Programe (HLP) came into the school to talk to all TY students about nutrition, wellbeing and fitness.
Over the two days, Jeffrey told us about his backround. HE left school at 16 and joined the army. He later became apart of the special forces. He told us how difficult it was and he would never have achieved what he did if he didnt have the determination to keep going. He also told us there was no such thing as failure and explained to us what group dynamics was.
We were split into groups of 9 to do multiple activities throughout the two days. They were called 'The Hunter Games' . This included tug of war, the eliminater, knock out, shuttle run, grou relay, relay and the grand finale. Although it was very hard in parts Jeffery kept pushing us to reach our full potiential he knew we could do it! By the end of the two days i learnt alot about teamwork and that everything was possible if we put our minds to it.
In between all these games Agata talked to us about nutrition and mindfullness. She thought us how mindfullness worked and we even tried it for a few minutes. She explained to us that there is hidden sugars that we dont know about in alot of the foods we are eating. She told us about 'MSG' which is put into chinese and other types of food for flavouring to make us buy it. Agata explained to us the effects of MSG and it really opened up my eyes and after the two days i had a greater understanding of what i was really eating.
Overall, I really enjoyed the two days working with my classmates and learning new things. I though it was very beneficial to me and everyone in TY.
