Knock
On the 14th September, all TY students gathered together at the school at half 8 and headed of on a two hour trip to knock. When we arrived we were paired up and brought to a table which had students from different schools. We were then joined by a member of ST Vincent De Paul. We introduced orselves to the group and told everyone a bit about ourselves.
Throughout the day we had various guest speakers talk to us about differnt topics, the first was Father Peter McVerry. He talked to us about homeless people. I was very intrigued by his talk as i didnt really think much into the backround of homeless people. He told us that people who are homeless have usually had a rough backroud. His talk really opened my eyes.
The next speaker was Cara Augestine. She told us about climate change and how we live now is so different to how people lived 10 years ago. She bealives thatbin 10 years time the world will be completly different, there will be all new ways of living.
We then separated off for lunch and were back for the third speaker John Lonergon, who worked in Mount Joy prison for many years. I really enjoyed his talk. After each speaker, within our groups we discussed and camer up with questions to ask speeaker. Students were then given the chance to go up on stage and give opinions on what we've heard.
The fina speaker was Joannah Riordan, i personally found her talk the most inspiring. All her life Joanne has live with a rare disease. She was born without any limbs. Even though she she hadn;t the advantages other students had, she still got involved in everything at school and has now travelled alo of the world. She has proved that you can do whatever you want, no matter who you are as long as you put your mind to it.
After Joannes talk we all loaded back into thebus after a great day and were back in Portumna for 5 o clock. I found the day really interesting and benificial learning about different topics.
