Fota Wildlife
On the 7th March, most of TYs had a very early start as we setted off for a long 3 hour bus journey to Fota wildlife in Cork, We arrived at around 10 o'clock and were introduced to our two guides Rachael and Caroline. We split into two groups to do two different activities. The first one was, we were in three rows, the person at the start of the row got a picture of an animal and had to describe it to the next person and so on, the last person in the row had to try and build the animal with the information they were given. My group wasn't very good at it and the information didn't even get to the final person by the time the game ended. The groups then switched and we played a game in groups of 6, one was a shepard and the others were sheep. The sheep were blindfolded and the shepard had to guide thm into the pin. gain, my team wasnt the best at this and we took the longest.
We then set off on a tour of the park. We were first shown where each animals food was made. We learned that all the animals are on a very strict diet and their food had to be weighed beforehand. The fist animal we saw was a wallabe, these along with kangaroos and other types of animals were free to roam the park, so we ran into a few of these along the way. We then went onto see giraffes, red panda, ostriches, different types of monkeys, lions, tigers, rhinosand penguins. We went into a room where there was butterflies flying around and could land on you, which some people in my class did not take to at all. Aswell as that there was turtles, snakes and fish in there. On seeing every animal we were given a description of them and some random facts about them.
At the end of the tour, both groups joined together and were given a presentation on some other animals, including foxes, otters, there was a stuffed version of each animal so we knew what they looked liked.
We left the park at around three o clock and headed to Mahon Point shopping centre where we got two hours of freetimeto eat and shop. We got back on the bbus and I was not looking forward to the 3 hour bus journey home. After it felt like forever, we finally arrived back at half 8. It was a very long day andi think we were all wreaked after it.
Overall, I think the day was a sucess, I really enjoyed learning about the different animals and would deifnetly recommend it to other TY students.
